This loan helps Samuel to secure a branded kiosk for his start-up business as a Zoona agent, so that he can advertise his business and become visible in the community.
Samuel lives in the Kaoma province of Zambia. He is married and has three children in primary schools.
Samuel's wife is a businesswoman and Samuel also wants to start his own business, to extend business opportunities and expand within the rural areas.
Samuel says the most exciting thing about running a business is the opportunity it gives him to interact with rural people. He points out that there's a high demand for financial services and he feels obliged to take the initiative and open a Zoona outlet, himself.
Samuel described how rural communities in Zambia are situated far from business centers and that, if people need to access financial services, they need to travel those very long distances to get to the nearest bank, which costs a lot in transport, such that most people have to walk.
Samuel wants to become a Zoona mobile transactions agent to lessen this burden on his community. He says his business will allow people to send and receive money without having to involve the bank, which is miles away and expensive.
For Samuel to achieve this, he needs funding, hence, he is reaching out to the Kiva community for assistance. This loan will go towards securing a branded booth (as in the picture) from where he will render his services.
With the income from this new business, Samuel will be able to provide for his children's education and create employment within the community.
